Turkey Trot 2010

I ran my first 5k!

I recently started running a little bit... or more so, wishing I was running more. I did alright. Maybe at least 1-2 times a week for the last 4 weeks and up to 4 times a week one of those weeks. I could have done more, but I also could have done nothing like usual, so this was progress.

I went into this 5k with 2 initial goals. Come in under 33 mins (and with an unspoken hope for under 30 mins) and run the entire thing, no walking.

In my 'training' I ran 3 miles, without stopping, once. And I did it in 28:28... so I knew my goals were attainable.

Come race morning I was nervous about 2 things:
1) The cold. I had been running inside and had never really run in the cold and wasn't sure how it was going to affect me.
2) Going out too hard at the beginning and being forced to walk.

Keeping warm and being weid, the usual. (Photo cred to Sarah's Mom)

The race went better than expect and I finished in 29:32! And I ran the entire thing! The only complaints I had were that the miles weren't marked so I never knew how far I had been and how much farther I had to go. There was a clock after the water station, but the girl said there was still a mile and a half. The clock said 21 mins, there definitely wasn't a mile and a half left.

The weather wasn't as cold as I was expecting, in the high 30's, but it was a bit drizzly.

I went with my friend Sarah and her family. Her dad stuck with her (they finished in 44:28, Congrats to them! and you can read her recap here.) And her brother and mom came to watch and take pictures (which I stole).
